Brahman Satyam Jagat Mithya

The teachings of Advaita Vedanta has been summarized in the following sloka attributed to Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya.

slok

ardhena pravakshyami yad-uktam granthakotibhih |

brahma satyam jagan-mithya jivo brahmaiva naparah ||

Meaning

‘In half of a sloka I state what has been stated by millions of texts; that is, Brahman alone is real and this jagat is mithyä, and the jiva is non-different from Brahman.’

Chandogya Upanishad Section 6

The Chandogya Upanishad belongs to the Sama Veda. It has 8 chapters and 629 verses. Swami Brahmavidananda teaches the 6 th chapter which is a dialogue between Svetaketu and his father Udalaka.

Vedanta Sara

Vedanta Sara (The essence of Vedanta) is looked upon as a prakarana grantha but is very comprehensive. It is divided into six chapters and contains 227 verses and is taught by Swami Brahmavidananda.

Upadesha Sahasri Chapter 2

Upadesha Sahasri (A Thousand Teachings) is a prakarana grantha written by Bhagavan Adi Shankaracharya. It is divided into two parts – one is in prose and the other is in metric verse. The manuscript suggests the possibility that any single chapter could be studied separately – apart from the rest.
